onethingoneweekLast week I signed up for the One Thing One Week Challenge at Amy's Creative Side. I needed to make a birthday present for my son's girlfriend. And since my son has his first apartment on his won, I thought it would be nice to make his girlfriend a cute apron. His dishes are black and his potholders and towels are turquoise. So I needed a fabric that would compliment that color scheme.

This adorable fabric came to mind.

This little girl's dress just needed to be refashioned.

I found a tutorial on Jenny's website HERE. She calls it the January "Cinderella" Challenge! Cute name!!!

I may never make another apron the old fashioned way again!

Here is the finished apron!

I used a black waistband.

I added turquoise buttons to the waistband!

Here is another view.

And here is the view of the back. I made an extra long tie for the apron, so she could have a really big beautiful bow!

One of the things that is so great about this method of re-purposing a skirt or dress is that it is so quick to make the finished project. The entire apron took less than an hour!

Thanks, Amy, for the challenge. I am glad this gift is done and that it come out so unbelievably cute!

Hope you get some great stitching done this week!

Stitching is great therapy!!!

Take care,

sewandtellfridaysThis week was my birthday week. I am 38 again! LOL! Yay me! My birthday was on Wednesday! I will do a separate post with my birthday stuff..... maybe over the weekend!

To commemorate my birthday and week 3 of my Dear Diary 2011 redwork, I made the following redwork block for my quilt.

I ♥ birds.

I ♥ presents with ribbons.

....and I ♥ birthdays!

Here is a close up of the stitching!

I also sewed up this pincushion trio....

and made pretty Jazzy Jewels quilt pins to decorate my creations.

I love the flower design on this fabric.

I ♥ the polka dot ribbon and the heart button on this pincushion.

This pincushion is scrappy & happy.

I ♥ the leaf button! Sew cool!

And the green glass beads make beautiful pins!

The free patterns for the pincushions are in the free pattern tab!

I must admit that this week I spent more time with family and friends celebrating then sewing.

I have an apron to make this week so I can fulfill my commitment to the One Week One Thing challenge at Amy's Creative Side. I know I can do the project in an afternoon, so that is what I plan to sew on this weekend. I also hope to be able to sew up a couple of sewing caddies for the Australian flood victims so I can post a package to New Beginnings care of Jenny of Elefantz.

I also plan to spend a great deal of time in my garden. Last weekend I planted 2 rose bushes. Hopefully this week, I will plant the rosemary and lavender bushes and a few other herbs. So much fun! I will have to take some before and after pictures. Then I can show off my garden!!!!

I hope that everyone has a great weekend and lots of fun spending quality time stitching!

Take care!
